Why Handwash ing Is Important Do you wash your hands regularly? Today we must have this habit to avoid getting sick and spread germs to others. Here are some reasons vvhy handwashing is important. Germs like Salmonella, E. coli, and norovirus can cause diarrhea, and they can spread some respiratory infections. These kinds of germs can cjet onto hands if people touch any object that has germs on it because someone coughed or sneezed on it or was touched by some other contaminated object. When these germs get onto hands and arie not washed off, they can be passed from person to person and make people sick. Another reason is that handwashing prevents illnesses and spread of infections to others. Handwashing with soap removes germs from hands. This helps prevent infections because people frequently touch their eyes, nose, and mouth wi thout even realizing it. Germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose, and mouth and make us sick. Germs from unwashed hands can get into foods and drinks while people prepare or consume them. The germs can multiply in some types of foods or drinks, under certain conditions. Gernis from unwashed hands can also be transferred to other objects, and then transferred to another person’s hands. Washing hands properly with soap and water can help prevent the spread of the gjerms. Some forms of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections can cause serious complications, especially for young children, the elderly, and those with a weakened immune system. Washing hands with soap and water will remove substantially more disease-causing organisms than washing hands with water alone. All soaps are equally effective at removing causing germs. Generally, it is better to usse liquid soap than bar soap, particularly at work or outdoor. However, bar soap is better than no soap. It is also important to wash your hands correctly. Use soap and running water whiie scrubbi ng the palms, back of hands, in-between fingers and underneath the fingernails. Be sure to lather for at least 20 seconds or more and dry your hands with a clean towel or air dry them.
